I yearn for a broader and sturdier notion, Complexity and contradiction, bound by necessity's notion, Encompassing experience within medium's limitation.

From Godel's proof of math's ultimate inconsistency, To Eliot's analysis of "difficult" poetry's subtlety, Critics emphasize art's paradoxical language's duality. Yet architecture too, in its intricate composition, Incorporates commodity, firmness, and delight's mission, Program, structure, mechanics, conflicting in their rendition.

In single buildings, even simple in context's embrace, Wants of expression, structure, and program interlace, Diverse and conflicting in previously unimaginable ways. And what of city planning's vast and encompassing scope? With problems aplenty and uncertainties to elope, I welcome and exploit contradictions, a vital approach.

Puritanical, moral language of modern design, Does not intimidate or make my vision decline, I prefer impure forms, compromise rather than pristine. Distorted over straightforward, ambiguity in expression, Allusion over simplicity, perversion's impression, Accommodating, inclusive, rejecting exclusion's obsession.

I favor "both-and" over limiting "either-or," Gray mingling with black and white, a palette to explore, Contradictory relationships, vibrant tension they implore. Valid architecture evokes meanings on numerous planes, Readable and workable, its space and elements remain, Simultaneously functional, symbolic, and artistic gains.

Yet an architecture of complexity and contradiction, Holds a special obligation towards unified depiction, Truth lies in its totality, implications of connection. Like Cleanth Brooks' poetry, a positive unity prevails, Not a negative residue, but a harmonious tale, More is not less, as a rich totality unveils.
